Week #3 Proj Study Re-Do:

Maybe this version of week #3 project study is a bit better.  Found some higher resolution crumpled paper texture art online but if it still doesn't look clear enough, I think I know what I'm doing wrong now.  I think somehow when I take it into my project to use, I am resizing it, down-sizing it too much perhaps and that makes it lose quality?  I've been looking for 300 dpi at least 2MP art online but if it's still not high enough quality in my projects, then I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong in Photoshop.  I also toned down the background art and other various art throughout so hopefully it's not quite as dark as before.

WEEK #3: FINAL COMPLETE-Coke Text Splash Image

Ok, I think I have finally completed my week #3 project study on the 'coke text splash image.'  I find it very helpful to take it step-by-step watching the recordings in blackboard and working my projects at the same time.  It allows me to take each individual step more carefully and hopefully more accurately, too.  This is far from perfect, however.  One particular problem I had was getting enough contrasting highlights, shadows and depth in my text in both Illustrator as well as Photoshop to get enough difference before using the magic wand to separate each to do the techniques described in the recordings to get the differences.  I ended up making a couple more layers of the text image in Photoshop and highlighting or darkening each individually as needed before using the magic wand to make my differences more unique.  Does that make sense?  Anyway, it seemed to work ok, maybe just not as well as explained in the recording.  Then I chose three separate layers for my blends:  vivid light, hard light and overlay.  Using a combination of all three blends and adjusting the opacity of each to get to the look I wanted, I think it finally turned out to be a fairly good reproduction of the original piece.  It's a far cry from perfect and I know there are areas I need improvement upon a great deal.  But never-the-less here is the final result for this weeks FINAL project.

Once again, the original from where my inspiration came, to the left.  Below is my representation (and YES, high res images do make all the difference)!

WEEK #3 FINAL STUDY: In Progress......

...NOT YET COMPLETE.....I'm in the middle of recreating the coke 'splash' ad I found and trying to learn the procedures to recreate the translucent text 'dancing' around the splashing coke beverage, with the help of the recording on blackboard this morning.  Here is what I have done so far and it does NOT include the text....YET.  I found some high res art I really like to do my 'background' to put my text image on so I 'm posting that here.  I'll post the completed project as soon as it is finished this evening.   This will be my FINAL project for week #3.  My earlier project study is on the last post I did last night of the cat image on top of pattern designs.  I do still want to go back and clean that one up some more and try to smooth my images together better.  Right now I feel like everything is just layered on top of each other and it is too dark and not very interesting.  Any input on that one would be great, too.  Thanks....more to come....PLEASE STAY TUNED!

A possible image to work with for the 'Splash' image:

I've also been interested in the coke ad I posted earlier however have not found a high res image worth working with that I like other than these 'splash' images.  I think these can work to learn the techniques to incorporate translucent text, too.

The coke image that inspired me, including the translucent text dancing around it.

A few possible high res images to work with.

Week #3 Study in Layering Patterns & Textures

This is a work in progress and I'm not happy with it yet as my supposed high res images are not very clear. I'm not sure what I've done wrong yet but I'll take another look at it in the morning.  I've recreated an image of the original.

This image is the original.

This image is my recreation.

Some other pieces inspiring me....

LOVE the whimsical cat dancing amongst the retro pattern prints on top of crumpled paper.

Liked the retro feel and colors in this pattern design as well.

I like the retro feel of this old ice cream ad and the simplicity of the iPod ad as well.

Another example of Jonathan Calugi's work

PLAYSTATION - THE STUDIO on the Behance Network

Here's another example of the work of artist Jonathan Calugi, Italy.  I like his clean, simple shapes and use of color through his pieces and I think it's a good practice learning simple vector line drawing in Illustrator.

Coca Cola —Fresh on the Behance Network

You've got to watch the video and see all the ad images to appreciate this but I love the way all the letters dance around the coke in these ads!  Even the print ads are very effective.....I'm curious how the text is translucent and appears to dance around the photo image!  Just as effectively as the video itself!  Makes you want to reach right in and grab a cold coca cola, doesn't it?!  Guess it's the HOT weather today, but these COLD ads just looked very appealing to me.
